RESEARCH OF THE CASPIAN SEA

Comprehensive environmental monitoring conducted by the Scientific Research Vessel Alif Hajiyev in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea

Alif Hajiyev Scientific Research Vessel (SRV) was produced in 1987 in Turku, Finland and brought to Azerbaijan by the order of the Hydrometeorological Committee of the former USSR. Equipped for hydrometeorological, hydrological and oceanological research, the vessel played an important role in the scientific study of the ecological condition of the Caspian Sea. Thus, the vessel was used to study the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the sea, as well as its biodiversity together with the staff of the Caspian littoral states until 1991, and after the signing of the Contract of the Century in 1994. After the establishment of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in 2001, Alif Hajiyev SRV was transferred to the ministry, and since then, along with oil and gas production platforms in the Caspian Sea, research has been carried out in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

After the overhaul of the Alif Hajiyev SRV in 2019-2020, research work was resumed in the section of the Caspian Sea belonging to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
